How often should a coated car be washed?

There is no perfect fixed interval, but daily drivers should be washed often enough that road film, salt, bugs and environmental contamination do not remain baked onto the surface for long periods. In Pennsylvania winter conditions, that can mean washing more frequently than during mild weather.

What soap should be used?

Use a quality automotive shampoo that is appropriate for coated paint. Routine washes do not need aggressive chemicals. Stronger alkaline or acidic decontamination products can be useful when a coating is clogged, but they should be used intentionally rather than at every wash.

How should the vehicle be dried?

Dry before water is allowed to evaporate and leave mineral deposits. Clean microfiber drying towels, filtered air or a vehicle dryer can work well. Hard-water spotting can etch or contaminate a coating just as it can untreated clear coat.

What causes a coating to stop beading?

The most common reason is surface contamination rather than immediate coating failure. Road film, iron, tar, minerals and detergent residue can all change surface behavior. A maintenance wash and decontamination often restore hydrophobic performance.

What should be done during Pennsylvania winter?

Remove road salt and grime regularly, including lower panels where contamination accumulates. Avoid allowing salt slurry to sit on the vehicle for weeks. The coating makes winter maintenance easier, but frequent contamination still needs to be physically removed.

Professional maintenance makes sense when washing no longer restores surface behavior, when mineral spotting is present, when the vehicle needs chemical decontamination, or when the owner wants the coating inspected and refreshed without unnecessary polishing.
