COATING MAINTENANCE ANSWER GUIDE
Why did my ceramic coating stop beading?
Road film, mineral deposits, traffic film, tar, iron contamination and other buildup can sit on top of a coating and reduce its hydrophobic behavior. A proper wash and decontamination can often restore performance if the coating underneath is still intact.
What does it mean when water starts sheeting?
Water behavior changes as the surface gets dirty. A contaminated coating may sheet slowly or hold flatter water even though the coating remains bonded underneath. That is why judging a coating only by one rinse test can be misleading.
What commonly clogs a coating in Pennsylvania?
Winter road film and salt residue, hard-water minerals, brake dust, pollen, bug residue and ordinary traffic contamination can accumulate over time. Vehicles stored outside or driven frequently usually need more maintenance than garage-kept weekend cars.
Can an acidic or decontamination wash help?
When appropriate for the coating and contamination, a professional decontamination process can remove mineral and road-film buildup that a normal maintenance wash leaves behind. Strong chemistry should be selected and used correctly rather than treated as an every-wash solution.
When might the coating actually be worn?
If the surface has been thoroughly cleaned and decontaminated and protection remains inconsistent, an inspection can determine whether the coating is damaged, heavily worn or due for renewal. High-wear areas may age differently from lightly exposed panels.
