Rinse before making contact
Removing loose grit before touching the paint reduces the amount of abrasive contamination dragged across the surface. Pre-rinsing or a foam pre-wash can be useful when the vehicle has heavy road film, salt or winter grime.
Use clean wash media and automotive shampoo
Use a quality automotive shampoo intended for regular vehicle washing rather than household detergents. Keep wash media clean and avoid allowing grit to build up. The objective is lubrication and contamination removal with as little unnecessary friction as practical.
Dry carefully
Water left to evaporate can leave mineral deposits, particularly when the water supply is hard. Use clean drying media or appropriate forced air and avoid pressing dirty towels into the paint. If mineral spotting becomes established, evaluate it before using aggressive chemicals.
Automatic brush washes are still risky
A ceramic coating does not prevent mechanical marring. Reused brushes and contact media at tunnel washes can still scratch the clear coat. Touchless washing may reduce contact but can use stronger chemistry, so it should not automatically replace a proper maintenance wash.
Weak beading does not automatically mean failure
Traffic film, mineral deposits and other contamination can mask hydrophobic behavior. Thorough cleaning and decontamination should come before concluding that the coating is gone. Periodic professional maintenance is useful when routine washing no longer restores normal surface behavior.
