Why there is no honest one-price answer
Two vehicles of the same model can require dramatically different correction. One may have light wash marring and healthy clear coat; another may have sanding marks, oxidation, repainted panels or deep scratches that cannot safely be removed. A useful quote therefore starts with clear photos, vehicle history and the result the owner expects.
One-step paint correction
A one-step process uses a polishing combination selected to improve gloss while reducing lighter swirls and haze efficiently. It is a common fit for newer vehicles, daily drivers and ceramic-coating preparation when the paint does not justify a heavier multi-stage process.
Multi-stage paint correction
A multi-stage process separates cutting and finishing. The first stage targets heavier defects; the finishing stage refines clarity and gloss. It requires substantially more labor and inspection time and is reserved for paint that can benefit from the additional correction safely.
Why deep scratches change the recommendation
If a scratch extends too deeply into or through the clear coat, chasing it can remove more material than is responsible. The correct professional recommendation may be to reduce its appearance rather than attempt full removal. Repainted panels and thin areas also require caution.
Correction before ceramic coating
Ceramic coating does not hide swirls. Because coating preserves the appearance underneath, correcting the defects worth addressing before protection usually produces the best long-term result. The correction level should still be matched to the vehicle and budget rather than automatically choosing the most aggressive package.
